It’s Almost September. Started Thinking About the Holidays Yet? Part II

In the last post we talked about the holiday season; about how it can actually be a bit of a boost for companies, as people are buying gifts and spending money much more freely than they would during any other time of the year. Companies that want to maximize their success during the holidays are already well into their planning phase as we speak. For web sites, success comes at the heels of their ability to increase web site traffic – something that many web site owners do through the use of search engine optimization.

But beyond just getting people to the site it is also necessary to give them what it is they seek when they are there. And in order to make that happen, web sites need to identify their targeted web site traffic and what it is they want when they logon.

A search engine optimization firm can be most helpful in determining a site’s targeted web site traffic and putting together a marketing plan that will help to increase web traffic. Search engine optimization is about raising a site’s rankings on the search engines; something that can be done through the use of keyword rich content and reciprocal links.

But once they logon, then what? In preparation for the holidays, think about gathering as much information as possible about visitors to your site. It doesn’t have to be personal information – you don’t need names and email addresses (although allowing people to sign up for email updates is a way for you to keep in touch with your audience and even offer discounts and other incentives during the holiday season). Set up small surveys on your site that will ask users about what’s most important to them when they logon to a web site and if you are delivering. Staying in touch with your audience is one of the best ways to stay viable online.
