Labor Day Sales: Web Site Traffic, Part I

Product oriented web sites are designed to move product; plain and simple. Those web sites that offer product to customers are responsible for maintaining and increasing web traffic through the creative presentation of product, the inclusion of relevant information that is important to site visitors, and the providing of a user friendly site where customers can browse with ease and ultimately find the products that they need at the prices that they want.

Search engine optimization is important for all web sites as it gives them visibility on the search engines that will ultimately lead potential new customers their way. In order to provide for comprehensive search engine optimization, a site will engage in a number of activities to raise their page rankings so that their site address is delivered to search engine users on the first (or at least second) page of results. Such activities may include the integration of keyword rich content that makes use of those keywords or keyword phrases that potential users may employ to find the goods and services that they seek. Additionally many web sites will engage in other marketing strategies including the use of blogging – both written and video, forums where site visitors can interact and exchange information, and contests and giveaways that engage the visitors in the functionality of the site.

For product oriented sites, the use of sales and product giveaways can be enormously helpful in garnering free web traffic. With the upcoming Labor Day holiday when product sales are expected, product oriented sites must pull in potential customers by creating a buzz around the web site and its offerings.

In the next post, we’ll discuss some of the ways in which products – and the web site at large – can be promoted this Labor Day holiday.
