Planning Helps Achieve Goals: Even Online, Part II

In the last post, we talked about how web sites – like traditional businesses – in order to be successful, must put plans into motion in order to define their objectives and ultimately measure their success. The way in which businesses are best able to go about doing this is with the help of the entire team. Without the whole business involved – employees to management – the effort of working towards particular goals can be somewhat splintered and the end result can be less than successful. And web sites are no exception.

The first goal that we talked about that most web sites are interested in achieving was to increase web site traffic. And with a search engine optimization plan in place – one that all members of the team are committed to working – web sites can often achieve their goals to increase web traffic.

Some of the additional goals set forth by web sites include:

* Converting visitors to customers. It’s great to have search engine optimization efforts be successful enough that a web site is able to increase web traffic. But until they are able to convert those visitors into customers the web site is not able to make the money it needs to support itself and be a viable member of the online business community. Web sites can do this as a team by putting manpower towards making sure the site delivers in terms of giving visitors what they need and want once they get to the site.

* Create a buzz about the site that transcends search engine optimization. Through solid public relations and marketing, web sites can get the word out about what they have to offer, creating a word of mouth campaign that propels the site’s success.

Planning Helps Achieve Goals: Even Online, Part I

Businesses in any category, of any size, and at different ranges of profitability will all surely attest to the fact that nothing can be accomplished in any industry without a fair amount of planning. In order for a business to be its most productive it must set out specific objectives and the methods by which they will go about achieving those objectives. When shared with the company staff as a whole, the business is then united as a team in the pursuit of this goal. Parts of the team having a piece of the objective will ultimately lead to a fracture in efforts and less chance of success. In order to be most effective, savvy business owners know that they must lay out a plan and make the entire staff accountable for achieving it.

This has always been a way of achieving success for traditional businesses and it continues to be the way that online businesses are finding success. A web site, while a different type of business is still a business and the rules still apply. Those who are engaged in helping a web site achieve success must be a part of the goal setting and striving to reach those goals. Without the entire team involved – just like in traditional businesses – the chances of success are reduced.

To start, let’s look at some of the goals that web sites traditional set for themselves:

Increase web site traffic. This is certainly a big one for any web site that wants to enjoy long term validity. In order to have customers you must first have visitors. Working to increase web site traffic is a great goal that can be achieved through teamwork. Perhaps a search engine optimization firm can be brought in to help create a SEO plan and team members on staff can work alongside them in crafting content that is relevant to the site and also includes keywords that work towards elevating the site’s page rankings with the search engines.

In the next post, we’ll continue to list some of the goals set by web site and how a company as a whole can work together to achieve them.

Incorporating Video Into SEO Efforts, Part II

In the last post, we talked about the increased use – and popularity – of videos online. Web sites that are actively engaged in the search engine optimization of their site have surely recognized the growing validity of video and how it is used as an effective tool by web sites that want to increase web traffic.

One of the ways in which web sites are using video in order to increase web traffic is through video blogging and other video content used on the site. Video works in a number of ways including:

* Reaching a particular audience. If your targeted web site traffic that you are trying to reach is on the younger side - especially early to mid twenties – then video may be the best way to go in offering up information on your site. In fact, video has become so commonplace and so expected by a certain online audience that it may actually hurt a site if they aren’t staying on the cutting edge in terms of online offerings.

* Elevating SEO efforts. While search engines don’t recognize the video content itself what they will recognize is the keywords used to describe and categorize the video. Additionally, videos that are good enough – that are entertaining, informative, and worthy of repeat visits (as users logon to see what else the site is offering) – will inspire other sites to link to your site – thus increasing the visibility of the site and raising the page rankings.

* Giving users a good experience. Videos add value to a web site so that the experience of the users is multidimensional. Stay in touch with the wants and needs of your audience and you will surely have a positive impact on your web site traffic.

Incorporating Video Into SEO Efforts, Part I

For web sites, search engine optimization has always been one of the most effective tools in increasing web site traffic. The search engines are the portal through which internet users are able to find the goods, information, and services they seek. Web sites that are able to optimize their site stand more of a chance of increasing their page ranking on the search engines and subsequently increasing their chances of their target audience finding them effectively.

To date, most of this search engine optimization effort has been applied to text; web sites utilize specific keywords that are also likely to be used by those who seek them out and they infuse these keywords into content that may be incorporated into the site or utilized on third party sites to be linked back to the web site.

But today’s online marketing efforts are involving video more and more. And so in order to be most effective in reaching targeted web site traffic, savvy web site owners understand that they must incorporate video into their overall marketing efforts. It’s gotten to the point that no matter what web site we logon to we are met with some kind of video content; and the online audience has come to expect this level of interaction.

If you are not currently using online video content, one of the ways that you can use video on your site is through video blogging. Video blogs are one way to keep in touch with your audience as well propel search engine optimization efforts forward.

In the next post, we’ll talk more specifically about using video blogs as a part of your SEO marketing plan.
