It’s Almost September. Started Thinking About the Holidays Yet? Part II

In the last post we talked about the holiday season; about how it can actually be a bit of a boost for companies, as people are buying gifts and spending money much more freely than they would during any other time of the year. Companies that want to maximize their success during the holidays are already well into their planning phase as we speak. For web sites, success comes at the heels of their ability to increase web site traffic – something that many web site owners do through the use of search engine optimization.

But beyond just getting people to the site it is also necessary to give them what it is they seek when they are there. And in order to make that happen, web sites need to identify their targeted web site traffic and what it is they want when they logon.

A search engine optimization firm can be most helpful in determining a site’s targeted web site traffic and putting together a marketing plan that will help to increase web traffic. Search engine optimization is about raising a site’s rankings on the search engines; something that can be done through the use of keyword rich content and reciprocal links.

But once they logon, then what? In preparation for the holidays, think about gathering as much information as possible about visitors to your site. It doesn’t have to be personal information – you don’t need names and email addresses (although allowing people to sign up for email updates is a way for you to keep in touch with your audience and even offer discounts and other incentives during the holiday season). Set up small surveys on your site that will ask users about what’s most important to them when they logon to a web site and if you are delivering. Staying in touch with your audience is one of the best ways to stay viable online.

It’s Almost September. Started Thinking About the Holidays Yet? Part I

The summer seems to have slipped by; the kids may already be back in school or are starting within a few short days, the nights are getting chillier, and – if the retail stores are anything to go by – we are already fully ensconced in the Halloween season. This fast pace of business leaves many companies struggling to keep up in terms of providing the customers what they want on a day to day basis. If the larger corporate giants are already stocking Halloween candy and Christmas trees in August, where does this leave the little guys?

For web sites, however, this is an easy to battle to wage, as the lack of a physical space allows them to open their product line as far as they want. But it also requires web site owners to be forward thinking in their offerings. Many web sites are only focused on their desire to increase web site traffic – completely forgetting the steps you have to take to get there. Is search engine optimization important? You bet. In fact, SEO services are undeniably essential if you want to procure visitors to your site. But ultimately it will be your product offering and your customer service that will keep them on the site and bring them back for more. These two working in tandem – SEO and product/service – is the magic combination.

So what’s the secret to making sure you always have what your customers want? Information and planning. You need to identify your targeted web site traffic – who they are, what they are interested in, and want they want from month to month – and you need to plan accordingly.

Look for the next post as we talk about some of the ways in which to gather information and set about planning in order to increase web traffic.

Targeted Web Site Traffic Can Change the Bottom Line, Part II

In the last post, we talked about the goals of businesses – both traditional and virtual – to reach their targeted audience and ultimately bolster their bottom line by matching their products and service with those who seek the same.

Web sites that want to reach targeted web site traffic do so in a number of different ways including the infusion of keyword rich content into their site which acts as added value for the user and also is a key component of search engine optimization.

Additionally, web sites can reach their targeted web site traffic by:

* Engaging in a reciprocal linking campaign which helps raise the visibility of the site on the online search engines and align it with other highly reputable sites.

* Including a forum on the site that will attract attention and speak to the topics that visitors to the site would be most interested in reading about. Additionally, web site users who are invested in communicating in a forum will return again and again and often bring along likeminded visitors.

* Promoting the site through alternative methods. A web site is a business just like any other and must be marketed as such. Using such methods and online social networking and press releases will generate buzz about the site and help to unite the site with its targeted web site traffic.

With web sites, it’s not enough to increase web traffic in a general sense as these visitors may not be interested in what the site has to offer and will logon and log off. It’s like populating a pet supply store with people who don’t own pets. Instead, by marketing to reach targeted web site traffic, web sites can increase web traffic and ultimately feed their bottom line.

Targeted Web Site Traffic Can Change the Bottom Line, Part I

We are all in business to make money – plain and simple. Sure, we want to make sure that we deliver high end goods and services to our customers and clients; want to make sure that our reputation is one of a stellar company that delivers on its promises; and want to make sure that we offer something that will procure us long term viability in the marketplace and in our industry of choice. But ultimately all that these goals serve is the bolstering of our bottom line.

All the same can be said about the operation of a web site, as this is virtual component of traditional business. Whether people logon or enter in the front door of a business they want to find what it is they are looking for; which means that savvy businesses that are interested in achieving results want to make sure they are marketing their company to the right audience. When it comes to web sites, this equates to targeted web site traffic; those people that are likely to be in need of the products and services that your web site offers.

Reaching this targeted web site traffic can be achieved in a number of ways including:

* The inclusion of content that speaks to the product and services that they are providing and that incorporates the use of keywords that relate to these products and services. This kind of content serves two purposes. For one, the content acts as added value for the web site visitor and gives them further incentive to return to the site (as they will view the site as a resource in addition to being a place where they can find the goods and services they seek). Second this content serves the purposes of search engine optimization and many web site owners will work with a search engine optimization firm to craft the keywords that make the most sense. This helps reach targeted web site traffic because these keywords act as a bridge between the seekers of specific goods and services and those web sites that offer such goods and services.

In the next post, we’ll continue outlining the ways in which web sites can reach targeted web site traffic.

Do Sweat the Details When It Comes to Building an Online Audience, Part II

In the last post, we talked about the propensity of many web site owners to concentrate their efforts on search engine optimization to garner an audience but then missing the boat when they do manage to increase web site traffic. This occurs because far too few web sites are really tuned in to what their audience wants and what will ultimately help them build long term relationships.

Is it important to include keyword rich content that serves the dual purpose of providing added value to your site experience and working to increase web traffic through SEO? Yes. Is it important to engage in comprehensive linking strategies to align your site with other web sites of high quality? Yes. These methods are both crucial to search engine optimization pursuits.

But there are details that matter to your audience that have nothing whatsoever to do with how they found their way to your site. Ease of functionality, for example, is crucial to building trust between a site and a user; if a user finds that your site is always down when they try to logon or they are unable to find what they need in one or two clicks of their mouse, you are likely to lose them in the long run. Worse still, you are missing the opportunity for one of the best methods to increase web site traffic – word of mouth. What’s a visitor to say about a web site that fails to accommodate their needs?

Contact information is also critical when it comes to inspiring a level of trust with a user. And this is especially so if you are selling products or services. Not providing detailed contact information can send the wrong message that you are not a site to be taken seriously.

Search engine optimization is important; that much is clear. But if you come up short with your audience once you get them to logon then your SEO efforts were fruitless. Strike a balance and you will find your sweet spot of increased web traffic.

Do Sweat the Details When It Comes to Building an Online Audience, Part I

When the Internet first started gaining ground as a legitimate platform on which we could not only communicate but engage in commerce, there were slim pickings in terms of what was available. In its fledgling years the Internet yielded a vast majority of business owners that were trying their hand in this brave new world; and we, as consumers, were so thrilled by the possibilities that we took what we could get. During these years we almost had to remind ourselves that the Internet was an option in terms of our everyday activities.

Today, the Internet is essentially the only option for most consumers. It is where most of us turn first if ever we need anything and, because of this transition, we have become much savvier consumers. In other words, what used to catch our eye or hold our attention in the past is not so immediately fetching in the present. Web site owners, understanding this arc in consumer sophistication, have had to rise to the challenge to deliver across the board. This has made their quest to continually increase web traffic and remain a viable online fixture something very different than before.

Essentially the ability to garner web site traffic consistently comes down to gaining the confidence of a site’s audience; and one of the ways in which we can do that is by paying attention to the details.

Web sites today are so focused on search engine optimization in terms of finding their way to reaching targeted web site traffic that they can easily miss the boat altogether in terms of delivering on the other end. In other words, what do you have to offer a web site visitor once they are inspired to logon? And how quickly can you deliver it? Because your window of time is short to make an impression.

In the next post, we’ll map out some of the details that matter most to Internet users and will go a long way towards helping you build relationships that last.

Labor Day Sales: Web Site Traffic, Part II

In the last post, we discussed the approach of Labor Day and how this affects those web sites that are product focused. Labor Day is, after all, associated with significant sales throughout the retail industry and those who shop online are expecting the same sort of bargains as they would if they were hitting the traditional retail shops.

For those product focused sites that are already engaged in comprehensive search engine optimization efforts, the approach of a sale period may give them more fodder in developing content, creating a buzz around the web site, and ultimately increasing their page rankings on the search engines. In order to help make Labor Day something that will bring them business both in terms of product sales and the culling of additional web traffic, web sites may:

• Send out press releases to online news sites that specialize in relating retail news. By getting the word out about an impending sale, web sites are able to create a buzz that will serve them well in not only stimulating web traffic but also in raising their visibility with the search engines.

• Utilize the social networking sites. Anything worth talking about these days is talked about on the myriad of online social networking sites that allow users to share information. By being plugged in to such a network, web sites are able to share their product offerings with others.

• Change up content and keywords. Of course a large part of search engine optimization is the development of keywords and keyword phrases that relate to the site’s specialty. In light of an approaching sale, web sites may wish to stimulate search engine optimization efforts by changing site content and utilizing more specific keywords.

Labor Day Sales: Web Site Traffic, Part I

Product oriented web sites are designed to move product; plain and simple. Those web sites that offer product to customers are responsible for maintaining and increasing web traffic through the creative presentation of product, the inclusion of relevant information that is important to site visitors, and the providing of a user friendly site where customers can browse with ease and ultimately find the products that they need at the prices that they want.

Search engine optimization is important for all web sites as it gives them visibility on the search engines that will ultimately lead potential new customers their way. In order to provide for comprehensive search engine optimization, a site will engage in a number of activities to raise their page rankings so that their site address is delivered to search engine users on the first (or at least second) page of results. Such activities may include the integration of keyword rich content that makes use of those keywords or keyword phrases that potential users may employ to find the goods and services that they seek. Additionally many web sites will engage in other marketing strategies including the use of blogging – both written and video, forums where site visitors can interact and exchange information, and contests and giveaways that engage the visitors in the functionality of the site.

For product oriented sites, the use of sales and product giveaways can be enormously helpful in garnering free web traffic. With the upcoming Labor Day holiday when product sales are expected, product oriented sites must pull in potential customers by creating a buzz around the web site and its offerings.

In the next post, we’ll discuss some of the ways in which products – and the web site at large – can be promoted this Labor Day holiday.

The Importance of Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization refers to the ability of businesses to increase both the quantity and quality of web traffic directed to a specific web site through search engines. Web sites are ranked based on their relevance to the search requested. Search engine optimization helps web sites to rank higher on the search results page, which will increase the likelihood of them being able to increase web site traffic.

In order to utilize search engine optimization, businesses should consistently update the content of their web site. This includes, graphics, text which includes specific key words or phrases, or web site options such as shopping cart check out systems.

Spiders are technological tools utilized by search engines to patrol the Internet for new or updated material on new or already established web sites. These spiders are able to evaluate the content of the web site and rank the order in which the web site will be listed on search engine results. Search engine optimization capitalizes off of these spiders by adding legitimate information to a web site on a consistent basis in order to gain priority status in their ranking.

Search engine optimization is useful for businesses looking to enhance and compete within the global Internet market. In order to maintain an effective ranking and stay competitive, businesses are always looking for new techniques to expand their overall business. Search engine optimization not only provides an essential tool in global marketing over the Internet, it proves beneficial to businesses as a low cost marketing alternative.

Businesses can simply update their web site content through minor tactics on a daily basis and gain the benefits of ranking higher on a search engine results page. Search engine optimization provides an initial screening of an Internet searcher through the information entered in their search field. Through this initial screening, business owners are more apt to have customers looking for items, services, or information provided by their specific business. Search engine optimization is a beneficial tool in expanding the growth of any Internet based business.

Free Web Traffic for Those Who Put in the Elbow Grease, Part II

In the last post, we discussed the do-it-yourself craze that –once mastered – allows people to save themselves significant money and still achieve their goals. While this would normally refer to projects being undertaken in the home, it can also refer to business plans.

Web sites that want to achieve their goal to increase web traffic don’t have to break the bank to make it happen. In fact, free web traffic can be earned simply by web site owners putting in some elbow grease and engaging in search engine optimization efforts. Some of the ways in which web sites can earn free web traffic include:

* The use of content. This is a big deal in the world of search engine optimization; by including relevant and interesting content on a site – and on third party sites that are linked back to the original site – a web site can generate interest as well as the attention of the search engines. Said content must include keywords that are relevant to the topic at hand – and the business of the web site; but when done correctly, this can have a truly positive impact on a web site’s ability to earn free web traffic. Keep in mind that content must be continually updated if it is going to be effective for SEO and if it is going to capture the ongoing attention of the audience – and this is what takes time.

* The use of linking. Linking to other relevant sites is a way to raise the rankings of a web site and earn it more web site traffic. A SEO specialist can be quite helpful in this regard.

* The inclusion of other interesting features. Many web sites make use of such things as video and written blogs, contests, forums, and social networking to help increase their search engine rankings and earn free web traffic.
