Every business with an Internet web site knows the key to increased revenues from online customers is driven by increased web site traffic. Directing more visitors to a web site creates the opportunity for more sales. There are several means to driving more web site traffic that are available for exploration. Increased web traffic can be accomplished through a variety of means that range in price and effectiveness.
Purchasing advertising and marketing spots highlighting the web site can certainly increase web traffic. These advertisements can be based in radio, print, billboard, or online. Pay per click advertisements are a popular way to allow potential customers the ability to easily link to the web site without paying a blanket fee for the advertisement. Rather, businesses only pay for how many people actually click to access their web site. However, the concern associated with these spots is the expense and lack of attracting specifically targeted web site traffic.
A less costly means to achieving a greater volume of more targeted web site traffic is through search engine optimization. Businesses realize increased web site traffic when individuals searching the Internet specifically for content related to the business find them. By frequently creating meaningful online content to add to a web site, the business’s web site link will naturally move higher on the search engine results pages. By maintaining this commitment to consistently updating the web site, businesses will physically watch their link rise on various search engines while simultaneously watching their web traffic increase, and subsequently their revenues increase.

The key element to the growth of any Internet based business is increasing targeted web site traffic. Simply increasing web site traffic in general can lead to more visitors that happen across a web site while looking for something completely different. Attracting individuals searching for the particular content on a web site is what truly leads to effectively marketing and increasing revenues.
There are many ways to increase web traffic to a particular web site. Some of these means prove more effective than others. Simply spreading the word about a web site through marketing and advertising may potentially drive more clicks out of curiosity, but these “curiosity clickers” do not always result in more sales. Driving specific targeted web site traffic provides a much greater ratio of clicks to revenue.
Search engine optimization is an extremely effective means to increasing targeted web site traffic. This process drives a web site towards the very top of the search engine results where most browsers begin clicking in their search for particular products or information. This is done through the process of adding quality content frequently to the web site. Over a relatively short period of time, these web sites bounce to the first page of search results based upon the match of the phrase entered to the search bar.
Increased web traffic certainly provides the potential for businesses to increase their revenues as a result of more potential customers entering the virtual doors. However, increasing the targeted web site traffic is instrumental in ensuring growth.

In the last post we talked about the upcoming holidays followed by the beginning of the New Year; something that businesses take very seriously in terms of setting forth their fiscal plans. As we discussed, part of this planning includes the accommodation for marketing objectives. After all, without marketing plans, a company has nothing put in place to reach their target audience and grow their business.
Web sites are not immune from this planning and, in fact, are just as responsible for putting marketing plans in place if they are to continue to be successful in the online marketplace. Some of the marketing plans that web sites may consider this coming New Year may include:
* Working with a SEO specialist in creating search engine optimization goals. The crux of the online business is making sure that all of the great stuff that has been put in place is worth the effort. Because if no one is finding the site then they are not able to enjoy – and utilize – those great things that have been put in place. While a traditional business may put an ad in a community newspaper, a web site must appeal to their community through search engine optimization. These efforts are meant to garner more targeted web site traffic, increase the influx of visitors to the site, and grow the business.
* An increase in advertising. The opportunities for advertising online are seemingly endless. Now may be the time to explore all the options available in terms of pricing and make a decision.
* Double PR efforts through social and business networking, as well as the dissemination of press releases. Getting the word out about a web site – through a multitude of avenues – can only stand to improve its exposure and increase web site traffic.

The holidays are fast approaching, and, of course, right behind them the end of the year. This is typically the season when so many of us begin to look to the New Year ahead in terms of setting our goals and making our plans both personal and business-oriented. Those personal plans – those New Year’s resolutions – tend to go right out the window within a matter of weeks. That diet plan or that workout regime sure looked good after indulging in all of those holiday treats but now, with the full brunt of the winter upon us we are less motivated to comply with even our own directives.
For businesses, it’s not that easy to get out of the goals that have been set forth for the year ahead. In fact, this type of planning is absolutely essential for companies if they want to make progress in growing their business and staying within their budgetary guidelines. Of course, part of planning for the year – for any business – includes a comprehensive marketing plan that will look to expand upon the ways in which a business reaches their target audience but do so in a way that is within their budget. Marketing is crucial for businesses and it must be addressed in all plans for the year ahead. And for web sites this is equally necessary.
Web sites market their business differently – through a combination of search engine optimization and online advertising – and to meet a different goal than the traditional business; to increase web site traffic and grow the business through online patronage. But this doesn’t make the marketing plans of a web site any less important – as we’ll discuss in the next post.

Continuing from the last post where we talked about the steady rise of popularity experienced by the Internet and how those in charge of marketing web sites have had to learn a whole new marketing language based on reaching targeted web site traffic instead of traditional new business leads generated by print ads, television, and radio. But while we went about all these methods by which to increase web site traffic and make our way in the online world through proper search engine optimization we began to see that even though the rules have changed the core of successful marketing has not. The buzz is what has always propelled a successful marketing campaign. When a company – or in this case, a web site – is able to generate a buzz they are able to generate web site traffic. And this constant stream of interest, coupled with search engine optimization techniques, feeds off of itself and continuous traffic is enjoyed.
The forum is one of the best ways in which to create a buzz around a web site; as is the inclusion of online blogs both written and video based. This gets people talking; gets them coming back to read more, see more, see who commented, and so forth. Think of the many social networking sites in existence at the moment. For those who are participants in such sites there is rarely a day that goes by in which they do not log on at least once – and often several times – a day to find out what is being said, who posted, what comments they received and so forth.
By translating this type of interest-generating content onto your web site you can create interest and inspire ongoing web site traffic.

The more things change, the more they stay the same; we have all heard that expression for sure. But the reality is that this one expression can relate to many areas in our life even as something as relatively new on the scene as the Internet. When the Internet started gaining in popularity even those close to the creation and launch of its features could not in any way imagine the magnitude of its impact on day to day society. We could not have foreseen the way in which it would change the simplest of activities in which we engage or imagine the role it would play in nearly every facet of our lives. But it has played such a role and it has had such an impact. And those web sites that are able to hang in there for the long haul and be successful and attract a crowd have really had to surf along a whole new wave of marketing. They have had to learn how best to market themselves in a crowded and sometimes confusing arena and how to reach targeted web site traffic with the same tenaciousness with which they reached out through traditional advertising and marketing vehicles.
But even as we have changed the way we craft our message and the way in which we go about marketing – search engine optimization efforts included – we have still come up against the core of what has always made marketing work to begin with; what has always propelled the message. And that is the buzz.

If you are a web site that is counting on the business of consumers this holiday season - to visit your site and purchase the products and services that you provide - then you may be understandably nervous; and you are not alone. Businesses across the country wonder and worry how the economy will affect what is often their busiest time of year; if consumers will be buying in the same manner that they have done in the past.
Ultimately, there is no way to control what kind of spending methodology consumers will adopt this coming holiday season. They may very well be taking stronger hold of their budgetary reigns. Ultimately web sites can only take control of what they can control and in this case it is directing web site traffic and making sure- once consumers get to the site - that the product is available, the site is functional and clear to navigate, customer service support is available, and you are competitively aligned in terms of pricing.
As linear as this may all sound, web sites may have the inclination that they are better off shutting down all forms of marketing and saving their dollars until the crisis passes. While this may sound good in theory, the reality is that without consistent efforts on the part of the web site owner – in terms of strong, continuous search engine optimization –the likelihood of sustaining steady web site traffic is minimal.
Search engine optimization efforts, in fact, must be continuous in order to be continuously effective, regardless of the economy.

In the last post we talked about the importance of a web site – in the process of their search engine optimization efforts – to make sure their physical site itself is clean, organized, easy to navigate, and without clutter.
Speaking in metaphors we talked of looking at a web site like a home that has been put up for sale. Potential buyers may come in and be met with a cluttered space that perhaps needs some organization and updating. Without the imagination to be able to envision what the home could look like with some TLC and updating, potential buyers may pass by the house and there’s no sale.
Web sites gain their web site traffic by appealing to the search engines; the search engines will “crawl” a site to determine its viability – often dependent upon the SEO elements that have been infused into the site. The search engines will then deliver the web site as a part of its results; the higher the page ranking, the better for the web site as the search engine users will invariably choose a site that is delivered in the first couple of pages of results.
The bottom line: a site has to be optimized to not only be found by, but attractive to the search engines. This means that in order to be the most effective, web sites must be devoid of clutter and able to be navigated easily be users. Too many graphics, hard to find information, and slow to load pages will only serve to inhibit search engine optimization efforts.

If you have ever been in the market to buy a home you know how difficult it is to see the forest through the trees so to speak. Going into a home that is outdated, full of clutter, and overall in bad shape can be difficult for those who do not have the imagination to envision what the home will look like with after a good cleaning and some renovation to modernize it.
If you look at a web site like a home, you can understand how important it is to keep it clean, de-cluttered, and modernized. Clutter and overall low functionality displayed by those web sites that have not come up to speed in terms of the technology available, will turn off those search engine spiders that are enlisted to crawl your site and many others. They are not human; they are computer generated and as such, they do not have the imagination to envision – much like that cluttered, out of date house – what your web site “might” look like underneath it all. Nor will they be at all interested in what the web site has to offer if they have to look around corners and under clutter to find it, so to speak.
Search engine optimization is a tricky business for web sites as it is; they need to be able to synthesize the products, information, and services they have to offer with the methods by which to attract the attention of the search engines. Content is king when it comes to search engine optimization and web sites work with SEO services to craft content that is informative and makes use of specially chosen keywords. But if the search engines are unable to sift through the clutter then the purpose of the content is lost.
